ADOPT recommended safety precautions

To reopen your offices and keep yourself and others safe there are a number of safety precautions that we all must adopt.

Make sure you adhere to the recommendations for conducting safe property viewings. The latest guidelines are:

  • Check if anyone in the property is showing symptoms or is self-isolating before going ahead with viewings.
  • Operate an appointment system for viewings.
  • Do not carry out open house viewings.
  • Strongly encourage virtual viewings and only agree to a physical viewing if a client has a strong interest.
  • Keep a minimum of 2 metres from others where possible. If not possible, wear a face-covering in line with government guidelines.
  • Ensure both buyers and sellers understand how the viewing should be conducted safely if you aren’t able to attend.
  • Do not drive clients to appointments.
  • Ensure all parties wash their hands with soap and water (or use hand sanitiser) immediately after entering a property. Ask that internal doors are opened and surfaces are wiped down before anyone enters. Use separate towels or paper towels if possible and recommend these are washed or disposed of safely after use.
  • Promote flexibility when arranging move dates, e.g advising clients to ensure contracts have explicit terms to manage the timing risks presented by coronavirus.
  • Work with clients and other agents to broker a new date to move if one of the parties falls ill with coronavirus or has to self-isolate.
  • Ensure that any keys are appropriately cleaned before handover.

ADAPT to the new normal

Reopening doesn’t mean ‘back to normal’ and no-one knows how long this pandemic will last or if there will be further waves of infections. For now, at least, we have to learn to operate in this new normal which may mean implementing staggered shifts for office workers, displaying safety notices, and using PPE.

Out and about

  • If social distancing isn’t possible, help your staff stay protected with PPE when visiting people’s homes with plain or branded disposable masks.
  • Limit the risk and stop additional visitors with “viewing in progress” door hangers
  • Provide branded hand sanitizer to your team to vendors
  • Help prepare a property for safe viewings with anti-bac wipes
  • Help viewings remain covid safe with washable gloves
